| The event is held in honor of jazz legend Clifford Brown. Clifford was a trumpeter and one of Wilmington, Delaware's most influential and prodigious talents. His life tragically ended early one summer morning in 1956. It was the result of a car accident on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, which also claimed the life of promising young pianist Richie Powell. The festival is intended to keep the memory of Clifford Brown alive. Pieces written by him and tribute pieces, like the classic "I Remember Clifford” by Benny Golson are often heard. Some acts are held at the Winterthur Museum and Country Estate where a fee is charged. 2007 featured artists: The Mahavishnu Project The 20th Anniversary festival is June 15-22, 2008. All events are FREE, open to the public and held rain or shine. Artists for the 2008 festival will be announced soon.
